HMV Live & MAMA Festivals presents NEXT BIG THING featuring Band of Skulls, General Fiasco and Birds Of Tokyo

Band Of Skulls released their debut album, 'Baby Darling Doll Face Honey', on September 21st 2009 through You Are Here. The album, preceded by the single,‘Death by Diamonds and Pearls’ has received a great reception across the press, radio on online media. The three members of Band Of Skulls, Russell Marsden (guitar & vocals),Emma Richardson (bass & vocals) & Matt Hayward (drums), first met at college and quickly discovered that having two lead singers and three songwriters in a band was always going to present unlimited possibilities. The band quickly established themselves in both the music and art community with a series of culturally inspired club nights in Southampton, London and further a field in Moscow & Tokyo.

General Fiasco are a feisty Northern Irish trio comprising of Owen Strathern on lead vocals and bass, his brother Enda Strathern on lead guitar and vocals and their friend Stephen Leacock on drums. Their debut album ‘Buildings’, is due to be released in March 2010 and it reflects the frustration felt watching friends succumb to alcohol and doing nothing to better their lives. “It’s all quite upbeat, poppy and rocky but the contents are all pretty bleak,” says Owen, “It was being aware of everybody wrecking themselves and not realising it. I’m sure everyone has something they really want to strive for, something they really want to achieve and it’s the frustration of not being fit to achieve it yourself and watching people not even try."

Birds Of Tokyo are newcomers but have wasted no time in making an unprecedented rise to popularity in their home country with three songs in the prestigious Triple J Hottest 100, two sold out national tours and a slot on the main stage at Big Day Out. Following that Australian success, Birds Of Tokyo are now intent on making waves internationally with the release of their sophomore album ‘Universes’.
