Influenced heavily by the interlocking, cyclical tones of indigenous folk genres such as Indonesian gamelan and African Mbira music, Nitkowski seek to fuse these elements with visceral, disjointed post-hardcore. The American minimalist style of Steve Reich and his contemporaries also informs the cyclical aspects of the music. A thorough awareness of the British art-punk lineage of The Fall, This Heat, Public Image Ltd and Joy Division lends the sound an uncompromising austerity. The band also employ octave effects to create 'bass drops'
reminiscent of UK dance genres such as Jungle and Dubstep. These multifarious elements can co-exist because of a rigorous attention to detail in composition and arrangement. Nitkowski render their music with an unpretentious, confrontational attitude, making for abrasive, cathartic live shows.
